H.I. Insider’s Guide to Summer 2022
“And summer‘s lease hath all too short a date.”
~ William Shakespeare
As you fly into Albuquerque and peer out the round oval of your window, you will see the Sandia Mountains swell out of the earth waves of an ancient sea. The Rio Grande winds its way through the historic city where adobe churches and quaint neighborhoods spring up like the chanterelle mushrooms after a mountain rain. You might start your stay at the Hotel Chaco known for its inspired ancestral design and attention to historic detail. Temperatures fall quickly at night in the desert so you might grab an extra layer as you head to the Level 5 rooftop bar. Offering gourmet cocktails, this chic terrace overlooks sparkling lights of the city and the sunset hues of the Sandia Mountain Range. Stay tuned for our next newsletter when we interview Hotel Chaco interior designer Kris Lajeskie.
In the morning, the city will look different as you whisk away on one of our E-Bike tours. Whether you are exploring the well maintained paths of the Bosque where the rivulets of the Rio Grande keep time with the passing clouds, or you pick up the tempo as you discover the cultural landmarks of Downtown, our friendly and knowledgeable guides will introduce you to the treasures of our culturally rich and progressive city.
After your time in Albuquerque you can head north to the capital city of Santa Fe. In the summer the streets of the historic plaza team with life and color as the city celebrates Spanish Market, Folk Art festival, and Indian Market, Santa Fe. Often, there is so much to take in, it is hard to know where to focus. H.I. has created complimentary tours that take you behind the stalls and introduce you to the world that has inspired these historic markets. You can choose or combine travel experiences which include Spanish Market E-Bike tour, ¡Viva Cultura High! Road Artist Studio Trip, Magical Heirlooms of Chimayo Day Tour, and the Private Vault Dinner at the Spanish Colonial Art Museum catered and guided by Norma Noranjo of the “Feasting Place.” However, you design your itinerary, our market inspired custom tours will take you deep into the sights, sounds, and traditions of Santa Fe’s most colorful season.
As you head north to Taos along Sangre de Cristo Mountains, you may visit Norma Naranjo at her home on the Owingeh Pueblo on our Horno Baking Tour. And for those of you who are dying to take a plunge into the Rio Grande you might enjoy our Culinary Outdoor Adventure Raft/Gourmet Lunch at Vivac Winery.
There are so many options! Follow us through the summer as we go into more depth about our curated tours and suggested Itineraries. You might want to get a head start and reserve your spot for “Journey Within – Taos” A 2 Night – 3 Day Glamping Adventure during the Perseid Meteor Shower, August 12-14th.
