We just returned from our Taos Glamping Adventure that coincided with the Perseids meteor shower. We were joined for the first time by Mike Hawkins, a passionate friend of HI with a deep love affair for the night sky. He brought his telescope, adding a new dimension to the experience as we saw Jupiter and Saturn up close. You can learn more about Mike and see more of his amazing pictures on his website.
We witnessed an incredible display of the Perseids meteor shower far from any light pollution. We were also treated to a night fireside storytelling with Ilona Spruce, Director of Tourism from the Taos Pueblo. Her stories brought us back to a simpler time illuminating the legends of the Taos Pueblo.

The combination of pure cool water rapids in middle desert is remarkably satisfying to this New Yorker—don’t under-appreciate the contrast. Rock climbing, outside / low humidity dinners w/ music + my personal favorite; lunch at a Pueblo-like wine vineyard. The backdrop was nothing short of barren sanded flattops and rugged vistas w/ an array of robust fruits at its forefront. You’ve got to try the montepulciano—dry AF, ideal for the red & dry lovers. An underpriced, under-appreciated gem … ultimately subject to saturation from an aspiring and familiar European tongue. Until then, enjoy its unrealized glory.
