A Time to Gather
New Mexico’s markets celebrate the height of culture and the depth of community.

Historically, New Mexico’s festivals have been a place for artisans, farmers and adventurers to gather and exchange goods, ideas, and stories. In the mid 1830s New Mexico began to function as a trading hub between the United States, Mexico, and California. Merchants migrated from the Great Plains to Santa Fe, to meet up with other artisans and farmers.

Later Indian Market was organized as part of the Fiesta de Santa Fe sponsored by the Museum of New Mexico as a way to preserve the native arts and traditions that were in danger of extinction. In 1936, the New Mexico Association on Indian Affairs took over the event.

Heritage Inspirations has crafted complimentary tours to Santa Fe’s most celebrated markets and festivals so you can design a whole week of activities and discovery around your visit. Whether you pair a Private Vault Dinner at the Spanish Colonial Art Museum with an afternoon visiting with the booths at Spanish Market, or you enhance your trip to Indian Market Santa Fe with a Gardens + Galleries E-Bike tour, H.I. has anticipated your curiosity and has built cohesive itineraries that go beyond the beaten tourist path.

In this newsletter we are honored to visit with New Mexico artist Victor Goler. Victor is an award winning Santero (one who makes religious images in the southwest US) and a conservator of New Mexico Art. Read along as he shares his life story with the same rich detail and vibrant color that illuminate his unforgettable carvings.

A Map of Santa Fe’s Most Vibrant Communities

In 2005, Santa Fe was chosen by UNESCO as the first Creative City in the United States. Historically, Santa fe functioned as a fulcrum for artistic traditions, a place to share ideas, stories, methodology, and culture. This year Heritage Inspirations has designed tours that will take you behind the scenes to introduce you to the people, cuisine, and landscape that have inspired our most beloved festivals and markets.

You may join us on the ¡Viva la Cultura! High Road tour, where we travel along the storied high road to Taos, visiting the artists and cultural sites that have sustained Spanish Market. In the evening, you may want to treat your family or executive team to a Private Vault Dinner at the Spanish Colonial Art Museum. Our Gardens + Galleries E-Bike tours explore Santa Fe’s rambling adobe neighborhoods, Canyon Road, and Museum Hill. If walking is more your style, our personable and knowledgeable guides will lead you on an in depth walking tour of Santa Fe’s Churches. And if you want to feast while you learn, Chef Tanya Story will inspire you in her Professional Kitchen located on the edge of the Historical Community of Agua Fria.

Whether you are marveling at the Santos of Spanish Market, discovering contemporary art at Indian Market, Santa Fe, or sitting down to a traditional feast, you will be revitalized by our rich culture. Dive into the magic of our dazzling festivals and check out our custom tours today!
