• Visit E.L. Blumenschein Taos Historical Museum to learn about the infamous story of 1898 that brought Ernest L. Blumenschein and Bert G. Phillips on a journey commissioned by the McClure Magazine from Denver to Mexico. On September 3, while driving the storm-ravaged roads of northern New Mexico, the wheel on their light surrey slipped onto a deep rut and broke. The men tossed a three-dollar gold piece to determine who would carry the wheel to the nearest blacksmith for repair. Blumenschein lost the toss and so made the twenty-mile trek to Taos with the broken wheel. Thus began a great experiment in American art.

• Journey to Millicent Rogers Museum for a Docent Tour. MRM is the place to experience all the cultures of the Southwest under one roof. As you walk through their twenty galleries and exhibition spaces, you too will make your own discoveries about the heritage of the Hispanic, Native American and Anglo arts of the Southwest. A special highlight of the museum is the magnificent turquoise jewelry collected and owned by fashionista Millicent Rogers granddaughter of Henry Rogers, co-founder, along with Henry Rockefeller, of the Standard Oil Company.
