- Journey on the scenic route into the Rio Grande Del Norte Monument. At the center of the monument our mighty Rio Grande cuts into the thick lava flows of the Rio Grande Rift Valley that make up the Taos Plateau. Our trailhead starts at 6400 feet offering breathtaking scenery along the 2.5 mile La Vista Verde Trail catching views of the Taos Box, an 18-mile stretch of 900 foot cliffs and huge rapids that empty at the historic Taos Junction Bridge.
- Visit Taos Gorge Bridge and walk along a short section of the Rim Trail to learn of this dramatic geological story from your guide while soaking in views of the Rio Grande Rift and River below.
- Following the Taos Gorge we make our way to Taos Pueblo, a World Heritage UNESCO site whose iconic multi-storied adobe buildings have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years. Discover where Taos got its name from the Tiwa language meaning “Red Willow” and listen to the stories about the historical and modern context of these peoples. Enjoy an immersive experience visiting with the Director of Tourism of the Pueblo for an intimate tour of this bucolic village.
